POTENTIAL DISSOLUTION OF DEAN PARK ESTATES COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION (DPECA)

We are writing to inform residents of Dean Park Estates of an upcoming emergency Special Meeting to help determine the future of DPECA.

DPECA’s continued operation requires two things:

  1. More members need to contribute membership dues and,
  2. At least a small portion of those members need to volunteer to help run the Association.

DPECA has been providing information and service to residents of Dean Park Estates for over thirty years. This includes information about the Schedule of Restrictions (the Covenants), advocating on behalf of residents to local and provincial governments, assisting with disputes among neighbors, supporting wildfire prevention, and helping to support civic infrastructure and safety through various initiatives with community authorities.

Support for DPECA has always been indicated by the proportion of residents who choose to contribute their annual membership dues and volunteer their time to support the Association. As that support has been diminishing over time, DPECA has responded by finding creative ways to reduce costs, improve efficiencies, and keeping membership prices steady to encourage contributors.

However, there is a limit to how much cost and volunteer time reduction can be had, while still maintaining basic levels of information services and advocacy. We are now at the point where we, and by extension, you – have a decision to make.

As an Association, we believe that Dean Park Estates benefits from the service that DPECA provides. We also know that community housing needs, demographics and membership perspectives have evolved considerably over recent years.

It’s time for you to help decide whether DPECA will continue to represent the interests of Dean Park Estates.

The meeting will take the form of a brief discussion, and a Special Resolution vote to determine whether DPECA should be dissolved as a registered B.C. Society. Only members who have paid either their 2022 or 2023 membership dues are eligible to vote, but any member of Dean Park Estates can attend. If you have not paid your membership dues for either of those two years and would like to vote, you must submit $25.00 to DPECA no later than December 31, 2023. Membership info is on our website. No dues for 2024 will be accepted at the

Special Meeting.

If the vote at the Special Meeting supports DPECA’s continued operation, it will be necessary for new volunteers to come forward. Pending the outcome of that, DPECA will assess the options moving forward. We thank you for your time and look forward to seeing you!
